Am I the right DJ for you?

Since 2014 I've been running Theology of Dance, specializing in teaching the truths of the Catholic Church through ballroom dance. It was a short hop from there to DJing weddings for my Catholic friends and dance students. I also started DJing other events, such as conferences and Daddy-Daughter Dances.  I can MC your event, lead dances (even if no one knows how to dance), or just provide music. 

I understand I'm not everyone's DJ. And I don't want to be. If you want a party with people jumping up and down to strobe lights and house music, I'm not your DJ. But if you want a well spaced dance floor and a delightful mix of music that brings people together, then let's talk!

Is music all you want? Or do you want more?

A lot of events just want music, and I do that.  But some events want someone to lead people in group dances, and that's where I excel! Group dances help people get out on the dance floor and help them meet new people and have fun in a way that feels safe and comfortable. And a lot of people like doing them.

Line dances are great because they generally get a lot of people on the floor with excellent spacing. I do the usual line dances you expect like the Cha Cha slide and the Cupid shuffle, and wIcan also teach and lead on the floor more challenging dances ranging from the Electric Slide  and Cotton Eyed Joe to the Shivers and even the Shim Sham.

Called dances are like line dances in that they have a dedicated choreography, but they involve dancing with a partner and interacting with other couples on the floor.  Some called dances are very simple, such as Pass the Rose, while others such as the Spanish waltz and Virginia Reel are more intricate. But most can be taught in about 5-10 minutes and can provide fun and connect people for 10-20 minutes after that.

Picking Your Music

Music comes in all styles: classical and rock, jazz and latin, country and western. At the Classy Dancing DJ we don't sweat the genre- we sweat what the song is about. I don't play songs with vulgar lyrics or about bad relationship. I also don't play songs that are overly repetitive and simplified- what is often called house, techno or (ironically) "dance music"; such songs don't appeal to the people who actually want to dance. I DO play many, and probably most of your favorite songs. Josh Turner or Tina Turner. Mozart or Motown. R&B or rock. I will work with you to pick music that is classy, fun and full of the right kind of energy.
