Your DJ

Are we the right DJ for you?
Matt Mordini is a DJ, event planner and dance teacher as well as an audio installation manager. He knows music and he loves creating spaces where people can become friends and celebrate better.
We understand we're not everyone's DJ. And we don't want to be. If you want a party with people jumping up and down to strobe lights and house music, we're not your DJ. But if you want a well spaced dance floor and a delightful mix of music that brings people together, then let's talk!
Picking Your Music
Music comes in all styles: classical and rock, jazz and latin, country and western. At the Classy Dancing DJ we don't sweat the genre- we sweat what the song is about. We don't play songs with vulgar lyrics or about bad relationship. We also don't play songs that are overly repetitive and simplified- what is often called house, techno or (ironically) "dance music"; such songs don't appeal to the people who actually want to dance. We DO play many, and probably most of your favorite songs. Josh Turner or Tina Turner. Mozart or Motown. R&B or rock. We will work with you to pick music that is classy, fun and full of the right kind of energy.
Finding the Right Dances
You have your guest list made up; you know everyone, but everyone does not know each other. So when the music starts, your guests come out onto the dance floor and form small circles with the people they know and are comfortable with. They are just not comfortable with the other guests. How can you get all the small parties on the dance floor to come together into one big party?
This is where the dancing DJ comes in! If you want to create a community on the dance floor, we offer the option to lead you and your guests in line and mixer dances. Line dances are great because they generally get a lot of people on the floor with excellent spacing. But line dances aren't enough on their own to create a community. So we use line dances to set up the mixer dances, which do create community by getting people who don't know each other to dance with each other in a way that is safe and comfortable. Typically we spread these dances throughout the night to build and maintain a good energy and vibe. So you have a good mix of ballroom, line and mixer dance songs.
